Early Primitive Chest in Red
This is a very early six-board chest in a nice small size. It is made entirely of pine, with a dovetailed case, and an interior till over two small dovetailed drawers. The lid has a batten on each end and an ogee molded edge that was hewn into the lid, not applied. It also retains its original wrought iron strip hinges, although one is broken and missing the tip. The red paint is most likely later, but still shows a great deal of age. Found in Connecticut. Measuring 33" wide by 14 1/2" deep by 14" tall. A wonderful diminutive chest!
